The Margate Jazz Festival enters its 10th year amid a flurry of step-change and re-invention. David Mossman’s celebrated success with bringing top-line jazz to Margate and establishing a meaningful annual jazz event has set the mark for future events.

The festival began in 2005 and over the years has featured Cleo Laine and Johnny Dankworth, Nigel Kennedy, Courtney Pine, Jamie Cullum, Christine Tobin, Clare Martin and Norma Winstone, to name just a few

International Festival

This year we’re emphasizing ‘festival’ as a gathering place for musicians from all disciplines. We’re keen to develop the connections with other musical communities across Europe that might justify us adding the ‘International’ tag to our title. We want to attract the curious visitor as well as the dedicated jazzerr! Good jazz is education, is ‘theatre’ and so performance brilliance is firmly on our agenda.

The Lifeboat Ale and Cider House Margate

As a developing centre for arts and entertainment, Margate provides a natural backdrop for the jazz festival. Venues such as Morgans, The West Coast Bar, The Lifeboat, The Glass Jar, they’re all perfect for that live music experience.

Margate’s original success as a destination for pleasure-seekers from London and Essex still holds a certain magic, our aim in staging the jazz festival here is to enhance and amplify that quality and provide jazz and music-lovers with a memorable experience.
