The 2016 Margate Jazz Festival is to be held across a number of venues in Margate during the weekend of the 23rd, 24th and 25th of September. It will be the 11th staging of the event.
Previous Margate Jazz Festivals have featured great names from the contemporary jazz scene both here and abroad including Christine Tobin, Courtney Pine, Evan Parker, John Etheridge, Emilia Martensson, Carol Grimes, Ian Shaw, Juan Perez Rodriguez, Michael J McEvoy, Monica Vasconcelos, Annie Whitehead, Jim Mullen, Paul Booth, Phil Robson, Henry Lowther and Steve Waterman to mention just a few.
Last year’s event proved to be feast of quality music touching on everything from Jim Mullen’s Organ Trio to Spanish jazz-flamenco from JUAN PEREZ RODRIGUES.
We promise this year’s festival will offer another great line-up. We have already announced some acts, and will be adding more. Tickets are now on sale.
If you would like to volunteer to help with the festival, please don’t hesitate to contact us at email@example.com.
A big thank you from the Margate Jazz Festival team to all of the amazing artists and the fantastic audiences for making the 2015 event a success!
We’re just sweeping a few more floors and making good for the long winter ahead (not sure how I’m going to get that banner down from the street-end of Morgans), but already there’s some lush ideas for how we can build on our modest progress.
There’s no better way to assess an event than from the eyes of those that attended so here’s a Facebook posting from Simon Rowan who makes bread and appreciates good music:
We were just thinking how slowly this week was going and boogey me its Friday already! Perhaps it was post the three wonderful days of the international Margate Jazz festival. Seriously, one of the festivals I’ve enjoyed most ever. The extraordinary combination of jazz piano and flamenco dancing with Juan Pérez Rodríguez & Auxi Fernandez. The legendary Scottish guitarist Jim Mullen, lovely Irish singer Christine Tobin (sadly for us, relocating to NY), our very own Glasshouse, Native Oysters, and Perry White trio. And, relocated from NY to Margate the best drummer I’ve ever seen – Doug Sides and his quartet, and a few others we regretfully didn’t get to see – all for £25! Insane. But thanks.
Personally, I’m very grateful to a small team of enthusiastic people – ‘enthusiasm is our fuel’ – And so, in the format of film/TV credits and in random order, here are the credits. See you in 2016,
